An ATS-friendly template reduces some technical reading risks. It does not guarantee a ranking or an interview. Start with a clear structure, recognizable sections and selectable text, then check the PDF you actually submit. Review every suggestion before you export: you remain responsible for the final content.

What ATS-friendly means

Applicant tracking systems can extract information from resumes, but their behavior varies by platform and configuration. A clear layout helps reduce ambiguity in the order of the text and the identification of common sections.

Use familiar headings for experience, education and skills. Keep dates associated with the correct position, and make contact details easy to locate. The aim is to make information readable for both software and people.

No template can reproduce every recruiting system. A technical check is a way to identify possible problems, not a prediction of the employer's decision. Relevant experience and accurate information remain essential.

Six templates from the actual editor

The Engineering, Classic, Minimal, Executive, Consulting and Sales templates are currently marked ATS-friendly in the editor. The previews on this page use those same templates rather than separate marketing illustrations.

Compare the emphasis placed on the headline, experience and skills. A recent graduate may need more space for education, while an experienced applicant may want their most recent responsibilities to appear first.

Choose using your own content. A fictional example can help you understand the layout, but your dates, longer company names and experience descriptions may create different line breaks. The editor's preview is the relevant check for your final document.

Keep the reading order straightforward

A layout should make the document understandable without relying on decorative elements. Check that a reader can identify your target role, find your latest experience and understand the dates without searching across the page.

Avoid using icons as the only way to explain essential information. Write an email address and a phone number as text. Use concise bullets and consistent headings instead of adding visual elements to compensate for an unclear structure.

Review the resume on a smaller screen and in black and white. A design that remains readable in these conditions is easier to share and inspect. If a section looks crowded, edit the wording before reducing the type size.

What a template cannot fix

A template cannot turn a vague list of duties into a convincing account of your contribution. Add context, coherent dates and results only when you can support them. A relevant keyword should describe something you actually did.

If you are unsure about your existing resume, use the public ATS check before choosing a replacement. It can highlight extraction and structure issues that deserve attention, while leaving the hiring decision to the employer.

Consider the application instructions as well. A photo, a portfolio link or a two-column layout may suit one context and be less useful in another. The template collection helps you compare options; it does not decide those requirements for you.

Check the exported PDF

Open the exported file, select a sentence and verify the section headings and page breaks. If the document differs from the preview or splits an experience unexpectedly, correct it before sending.

The free ATS check can complement this review by examining the file's extraction and structure. It does not replicate a particular employer's software or certify that the resume will be accepted.

Finally, read the first two experiences aloud and verify the contact details. A vague title, a long bullet or an inconsistent date is often easier to spot during this last review than while comparing designs.
